England’s bowler Jofra Archer will sit out from the first Test against Australia at Edgbaston. Archer played an important role in the back in the ICC World Cup, he was the leading wicket-taker of the team. During the match against Afghanistan at the cricket league, he sustained a side injury. However, he still continued to play until the end in spite of the excruciating pain he bears.
Jofra Archer is named in the squad for the 71st Ashes but he will be omitted to ensure his full fitness. Team captain Joe Root assured that the Barbados-born bowler will come back ready and fit after his full recovery from his serious injury.
Archer revealed in an interview that he’s taking painkillers since the second half of the tournament. After their successful campaign in the World Cup, he took a vacation to recover but he returned to play in the T20 Blast.
The team is giving importance to Archer’s condition. He will be continuously monitored to see if he’s absolutely fit to be in the field. Root doesn’t lose confidence because the team has Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad and James Anderson who does the best attacks.
“We’re very excited as a group, it’s a great opportunity for us obviously to play the first test match here at Edgbaston. We’ve got a very good record here as a team, but that does sort of count for nothing now as tomorrow starts.” Root said in a press conference.
Root thinks that it’s really important that the team has its eyes focused on how they want to approach the series. He feels very confident for his team and they’re more than capable of winning the test match.
