
“We actually considered developing an inactive RuneScape game a few years ago, with RS Gold RuneScape: Idle Adventures,” Pfeiffer explains. “In Alpha, we stopped development to focus our efforts on the main RuneScape games.
We’ve always believed in that RuneScape’s game has potential in the idle space , and Melvor Idle more than demonstrates that RuneScape can be a great idle game. However, Melvor Idle stands up on its own merits as well, and we wanted to stay in line with the concept of this game Brendan initially had when he began developing Melvor Idle.”
Pfeiffer also points to the success of Melvor Idle as proof that potential talent can arise from any game’s community which is something Jagex has already discovered. “We’ve always found to be able to count on the RuneScape communities to be a great resource of potential talent to Jagex, not just in terms of game designers but all of the many roles within a games studio,” Pfeiffer claims. “RuneScape has had almost 300million accounts created over 20 years, which means the talent pool who have played the game is massive.”
